Back 40 Funding was founded by rural real estate entrepreneurs who experienced the frustration of finding great deals in local neighborhoods but lacked the funds necessary to see the deal come together. The Back 40 of America has become synonymous with rural America. The term originated in the 1860s when the US government implemented the Homestead Act, an initiative to inspire adventurous settlers to expand westward. Those willing to go were gifted 160 acres of land that would subsequently be divided into four plots of 40 acres. The "Back 40" became synonymous with farming and farming over the years would become synonymous with rural America.
